Another immediate threat is the reduction and fragmentation of indigenous territory. Deforestation and road building is obviously threatening life in the amazon. The effect of roads on local ecosystems is enormous and extends far beyond the roads themselves. This is because roadbuilding changes the temperature and humidity of air and soil, leads to changes in the natural movement of animals, and provides ingress for other destructive activities such as logging and industrial agriculture.

 

These threats lead to a loss of cultural languages and land sovereignty, communities and environment are destroyed, and many young people migrate to live in cities where they face discrimination and poverty and are often drawn into prostitution and crime. To prohibit this, it is important to empower and strengthen our communities.
